Like others, you will hear many rumors about where and when you could get pregnant. For some women, the thought of getting pregnant is met with great joy and anticipation, while for others it’s a cause of worry.
This is why most women in the reproductive age or the ones who are trying desperately to conceive will have many questions or doubts about their chances of conceiving.
We will look further at this below to help you understand more about unprotected sex and pregnancy.
What’s the Chance of Getting Pregnant If You Had Unprotected Sex
There is a good chance that you could get pregnant nearly any time that you engage in sexual intercourse without using an effective birth control. This scenario is familiar to most women.
Pregnancy usually occurs around the ovulation period, the time when your ovary releases egg in the fallopian tube. If you are having regular periods, ovulation will take place midway between your menstrual periods.
Ovulation usually happens midway between the first-day of 2 consecutive periods, but this can vary from the eight day to the twentieth day of a 28-day cycle.
Researchers calculate the average risk at varying times in a monthly cycle of a woman, but you should know that your risk can be lower or higher.
You cannot know the definite time of your ovulation, which is why the researchers use the monthly cycle of a woman when calculating the average risk for pregnancy.
Figuring Out the Chances of Getting Pregnant If You Had Unprotected Sex
You are more likely to conceive if you have unprotected sex during the middle 2 weeks of your cycle. The time varies, but many women ovulate about day 14.
You will have the highest risk of pregnancy by having unprotected sex one or two days before your ovulation starts; when the ovary releases the egg.
This is a 30% chance. The risk of having unprotected sex and getting pregnant three days prior to ovulation is 15%. You will have a 12% chance on the ovulation day. [1]

This is because you will have a much lower risk of getting pregnant if you engage in any sexual relations on the ovulation day and any day besides the three days prior to.
Not Getting Pregnant After Having Unprotected Sex for Months
There are times when having unprotected sex is not enough for you to get pregnant. You could be doing this for months with no luck.
Thankfully, there are certain things that you could do to increase your chances if it’s taking longer than expected for you to conceive.
This includes doing thinks like monitoring your ovulation, using an ovulation predictor kit, charting your basal body temperature, as well as checking and observing your cervical mucus.
When you have an idea of your ovulating time, you can start to time your sexual activities around that period. If you are using this method, you must ensure that you are having sex 2 days before your ovulation day or every other day during the week of your expected ovulation. This will boost your chances of conceiving.
If it’s a case where you have been engaging in unprotected sexual activities for more than six months without success, you could visit your doctor or ob/gyn to know about the alternative treatments that you could use for fertility problems. There are several solutions available and they are very effective.
How to Know When You Get Pregnant
The most common sign of pregnancy after unprotected sex is missed period. However, this missed or late period is not a sure sign as there are many other things that can cause it besides pregnancy.
This includes using birth control that contains hormones, stress, sickness, improper eating habits, or too much exercise.

My last period was October 25th, I had sex 4 times in one day (back to back) on Halloween. My next period should be the 14th of November but I’m not too sure. My cycle is 28 days and my period lasts 3-5 days. I don’t think I ovulate until tomorrow November 5th and I had sex yesterday. The 4 times on Halloween he ejaculated each time and the one yesterday inside me. I did my homework and read that the sperm could live up to 5 days inside me? What are my chances of conceiving?? Thank you!!!
You will ovulate from November 06 to 10, 2015 and your next period is expected on November 22. The chances of conceiving would be low.
LMP Oct 14/15 Had unprotected sex Oct 31/15. 30 day cycle. What is my chance of being pregnant?
I’ve been taking birth control pills for about a year now. I just recently stopped taking it and the day afterwards I had unprotected sex 10/03/2015. I stopped taking the pills altogether and I’m expecting a period on 10/07/2015. What are my chances of getting pregnant and what day can I have unprotected sex to get pregnant if I’m not already?
P.S I’m trying to get pregnant
Hello,Once you have stopped taking the Pill there is no medical reason why you can’t start trying straight away, even if you’ve been taking it for years. You should wait until you have a first proper period so you can tell when you will ovulate .When you come off the Pill, you’ll first experience a withdrawal bleed which doesn’t count as a normal period but is the effects of the hormones leaving their system.Ovulation can be delayed when first coming off the Pill so it can be difficult to estimate a due date if you do get pregnant.
Hi my lmp was on October 16th an ( pretty regular cycle every month ) according to my period tracker I was ovulating today and my husband and I have had sex pretty frequently this last week . Could I have conceived?

Hello my last cycle started on 15/10/2015, I had unprotected sex from 24th to 28th. Are there chances of me getting pregnant?
Your chances of being pregnant depend on whether you were fertile on or around the date that you had sex. It is important to know the number of days in your menstrual cycle. This information is needed to provide you with the most accurate response.
My last period was October 5 lasting 6 days.. Cycle is 30 days had unprotected sex and my boyfriend came inside me on October 18th… My period should be starting in a day or so.. What are my chances of being pregnant!!! Feel like I have some early signs but could be in my head took a test this morning November 3rd said negative but have a feeling !!!
Same for me or just about, my period was October 6th lasting 5 days, we had sex on the 17th and 18th and I missed my period yesterday. Yesterday I had mild cramping like it was about to come on but now I feel nothing. I haven’t tested yet though, hoping for a positive.
Lmp was 25 of Sept. Unprotected sex was Oct 26. I’m expecting to have my period by this time, but I still missed it and waiting on it. 30-day cycle. Is it possible that am pregnant? When is the best time to check it? Thanks.
You were fertile from October 9 to 13. Your period was due on October 25. You can take a test now to confirm if you are pregnant. You can get the most accurate result if you wait at least one week after missing your period. In addition, the result might be even more accurate if the test is done first in the morning as the urine is far more concentrated at this time. The urine-based home pregnancy tests offer great accuracy.
My period just ended 2 days ago. I have unprotected sex today. So what’s the chance to get pregnant?
