Like others, you will hear many rumors about where and when you could get pregnant. For some women, the thought of getting pregnant is met with great joy and anticipation, while for others it’s a cause of worry.
This is why most women in the reproductive age or the ones who are trying desperately to conceive will have many questions or doubts about their chances of conceiving.
We will look further at this below to help you understand more about unprotected sex and pregnancy.
What’s the Chance of Getting Pregnant If You Had Unprotected Sex
There is a good chance that you could get pregnant nearly any time that you engage in sexual intercourse without using an effective birth control. This scenario is familiar to most women.
Pregnancy usually occurs around the ovulation period, the time when your ovary releases egg in the fallopian tube. If you are having regular periods, ovulation will take place midway between your menstrual periods.
Ovulation usually happens midway between the first-day of 2 consecutive periods, but this can vary from the eight day to the twentieth day of a 28-day cycle.
Researchers calculate the average risk at varying times in a monthly cycle of a woman, but you should know that your risk can be lower or higher.
You cannot know the definite time of your ovulation, which is why the researchers use the monthly cycle of a woman when calculating the average risk for pregnancy.
Figuring Out the Chances of Getting Pregnant If You Had Unprotected Sex
You are more likely to conceive if you have unprotected sex during the middle 2 weeks of your cycle. The time varies, but many women ovulate about day 14.
You will have the highest risk of pregnancy by having unprotected sex one or two days before your ovulation starts; when the ovary releases the egg.
This is a 30% chance. The risk of having unprotected sex and getting pregnant three days prior to ovulation is 15%. You will have a 12% chance on the ovulation day. [1]

In the real world, large studies show that women who engage in unprotected sex during mid-cycle have a much lower chance of getting pregnant as the risk is around 5.8%.
This is because you will have a much lower risk of getting pregnant if you engage in any sexual relations on the ovulation day and any day besides the three days prior to.
Not Getting Pregnant After Having Unprotected Sex for Months
There are times when having unprotected sex is not enough for you to get pregnant. You could be doing this for months with no luck.
Thankfully, there are certain things that you could do to increase your chances if it’s taking longer than expected for you to conceive.
This includes doing thinks like monitoring your ovulation, using an ovulation predictor kit, charting your basal body temperature, as well as checking and observing your cervical mucus.
When you have an idea of your ovulating time, you can start to time your sexual activities around that period. If you are using this method, you must ensure that you are having sex 2 days before your ovulation day or every other day during the week of your expected ovulation. This will boost your chances of conceiving.
If it’s a case where you have been engaging in unprotected sexual activities for more than six months without success, you could visit your doctor or ob/gyn to know about the alternative treatments that you could use for fertility problems. There are several solutions available and they are very effective.
How to Know When You Get Pregnant
The most common sign of pregnancy after unprotected sex is missed period. However, this missed or late period is not a sure sign as there are many other things that can cause it besides pregnancy.

I had my last menstrual period on 26th July but had an unprotected sex with my bf on 5th August in which he poured inside me. Is there a chance of me getting pregnant? Reply.
yes. you need to use a contraceptive if you don’t want to get pregnant. read this post to learn more about when to take a pregnancy test
Period was on July 12-17/18.
Had unprotected sex on the 25th of July. My ovulation day was on the 26th. Not sure if precum is able to get you pregnant. But what are the chances?
Hi YRangel, as this fluid does not contain sperm it can’t by itself cause a pregnancy. However as the purpose of this fluid is to flush out the penis it will bring any sperm left in the penis from the last ejaculation to the tip of the penis. If this happens that small amount of sperm could cause a pregnancy.
i had an uprotected sex with my bf last july 14 ..im so paranoid by the following weeks coz i ddn’t feel any sign for my menstration is coming so i take pt its negative..then by the following days july 29 i had my period but i feel dizzy now and vomitting.. so is there a possibility to get pregnant even i already had my period?pls help me i really need an answer ..
You can be pregnant even having a period….there are some women who bleed their wholw pregnancy. Your best bet is to stI’ll take a test to rule it out. Either go see your doctor or take a home test. They even have ones at dollar stores if money is an issue. Good luck!
We had unprotected sex on 28 July then again had unprotected sex on 1 August and didn’t take the i-pill yet.
If I take the i-pill today, will it reduce the risk of getting pregnant?
If not then please tell me what to do we don’t want any pregnancy at least now.
Yes, they work up to 72 hours. The chances of working becomes significantly lower but it still may work.
My last period started on the 18th of July then finished on the 23rd I then spotted for two days after that then also had unprotected sex while spotting on the 25th, I started ovulating earlier then usual on the 30/31st With a lot of discharge witch I hardly ever get, is the a possibility of a pregnancy? And whats the chances of a pregancy? 🙂
It may be possible Jasminelee. Sperm can live inside of you for up to 7 days awaiting the egg to arrive so yes it possible.
Ok so question, my boyfriend and i lost a baby in march. So he is not cumming inside me when we are having sex. However, i had my first day of my last period july 17. We had sex this past wed july 29. With my on top he is usually very good at controlling when but we were both very into the sex and on doing so he had to literally lift me off unexpectedly because i had made him cum. What are the chances that he got cum inside of me because i know for a fact that i was in my most fertile time 12 days from first day of my last period. Plus my discharge is thicker, another sign u are ovulating. I needed to know what the chances are that if he released even a little bit that id be pregnant?
The chances are any where from extremely high to extremely low. There is no knowing if our how much he ejaculated inside of your so it is hard to say but if it was a very minimal amount it would all depends on how strong his soliders are. But it definitely sounds like you were ovulating. I would recommend taking a pregnancy test around the 20th of August just to be sure.
I had my periods in the month of july had unprotected Sex on 24 july 2015 in evening at 5:30 pm and same day at 8 pm I took a pill I want to ask if I am safe
Most likely you are safe. You took the pill very soon which gives it a better chance to do its job!
A 3 months ago me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex and he didn’t release sperm inside me and I didn’t get my periods since then.
I already did 3 home pregnancy test but they all keep coming back negative.
I have been having some symptoms like cravings, I feel bloated, my boobs hurt, and I am going to the bathroom a lot. I am also sleeping a lot, and have some white discharge so I don’t what to do. Do you guys think that I could be pregnant or not? Please give me some advice.
Go to the doctor and have them do a blood test to difinitively rule out pregnancy. Even if he did not ejaculate, there is still viable and motile sperm in precum. So you still could have gotten pregnant.
This is very interesting situation! I would recommend going to see a doctor, specifically an OBGYN, things such as an ultrasound can be done and/or more to determine what is going on.
I had unprotected sex one day before my ovulation day but he didn’t cum inside me. My period wont come for another 14 days. However I’m feeling very tired all of a sudden and moody. Please tell me I’m overrating and not pregnant right now.
Precum has viable sperm in it….you could very well still be pregnant but it’s too early to tell by a home test or a blood test if the egg hasn’t implanted yet. You’re just gonna have to wait a little longer. You can test up to 5 days before you miss your period with certain home pregnancy tests. If it still comes up negative wait until the day after you miss your period and test again.
sex on the day when my periods is about to come…. now my periods are delayed …… am i pregnant …… the period date is 18…. till now its miss…. am i pregnant???
Had period on the 21st of june and my cycle last for 29days which means I have a 29day period cycle and I had sex on the 14t and on the 7th of july which they say they my most fertile days and my periods were due on the 20th of july and they came .. Does that mean I did no concieve?
Yes, this means your uterus has begun shedding the lining that would have been needed for pregnancy.
my last period started on 19/7/15 and I made love on the 28/7/15.
My cycle is normally 24 or 25 days.
Is there a chance of me getting pregnant?

There is still a chance of you being pregnant even with the use of Levonorgestrel. Wait until 5-10 days after your missed period to take a test. I would recommend using First Resonse
I had unprotected sex on June 30th and July 12th I am 5 weeks and 1day pregnant which day did I most likely conceive?
My girlfriend has been on the pill for a month and a half and her period ended one week ago. We had sex today and I ejaculated inside her. What is the chances of her being pregnant? I’m freaking out.
If she is no longer taking the pill there is a decent chance she may have conceived. It would depend on the length of her cycle and when her most fertile days are. You can find an ovulation calculator online, put in the info of the 2 questions asked and it will determine the likelihood of conceiving based on the date given.
I had sex not that long, for like 2 minutes because it hurt, in fact he didn’t go all the way inside. Also, he took it out and did not ejaculate inside me. Could I be pregnant? This activity was on July 11. Which happened around 6 days before my expected ovulation. My last period was June 30.
There is a very low chance you are pregnant. If you feel differently, take a pregnancy test 3-5 days after your missed period.
