Introduction
If you want to stand the best chance of getting pregnant, then you need to know when you are ovulating. This is the time of the month when women are in their most fertile period. Ovulation usually happens around day 14 of the cycle [1]), while there is a greater chance of a sperm reaching the egg and fertilizing it.
However, one of the biggest problems and question that people have is knowing how to calculate their next ovulation date and when is the best time to aim for intercourse. This is where technology can come in handy. You can use an ovulation calculator, like the one below, to get a rough estimate of when you are going to ovulate next.
Ovulation & Period Calculator
Use this period calculator to calculate your next period (menstruation), fertile period, ovulation, and due date. To give you an estimate as to when those time frames are, please provide the requested information and press the Calculate button (results will be shown below, together with a fertility calendar):
When did your last period start?
How many days did it last?
How long is your cycle?
Below are the results based on the information you provided:
Your next menstrual period is expected to start on
Your next most fertile period is from to
If you conceive within this timeframe, your estimated due date will be
- Pre-Period
- Period Days
- Post-Period
- Peak Ovulation
Please note that this is only an estimation of your menstrual cycle
A period calculator is not the same as talking to a healthcare professional, so this is just to aid you in coming up with the most accurate calculation possible, on your own.
Also, keep in mind that these calculators will be useful to women with a fairly regular menstrual cycle. For women with irregular menstrual cycle tracking other ovulation symptoms or using an ovulation predictor kit might give more accurate results, all of which we’ll cover later one.
How Do Menstrual Cycle Calculators Work?
Menstrual Cycle Calculators vary in complexity. Some will ask you for information such as your average body temperature, as well as various other bits and pieces about what your body is currently going through.
While there are women who measure their basal body temperature, it’s not something that the everyday woman uses.
However, it is a rather accurate way (when done 100% correctly) to determine when a woman is ovulating.
Some feel that these types of cycle calculators are “overkill”, but for those who are using the basal body temperature to prevent and plan a pregnancy, they have this information handy.
If you aren’t into this type of strict monitoring, a simple calculator like the one provided here can give you really good results and help you plan.
Using a Period Calculator
The first thing that the period calculator will ask you is the date of your last period. With so many apps available now, this should be information that is readily available.
And just remember, when calculating your period, you use the first day of your last period. This was the beginning of your cycle.
If you don’t know the exact first day, calculate back from the last day however long it lasted, and start tracking now. Especially if you are trying to get pregnant.
Some will use a menstruation calculator to figure out when to expect their periods and when to expect PMS. PMS is due to the change in hormones that cause periods and pregnancy.
When you are pregnant or during your period, these emotional and physical symptoms subside [2]. Some women can then plan to change their diet a few days before they expect PMS and help to alleviate some of the symptoms.
The next piece of information that you will be asked for is the average length of time between your periods. This is the length of the menstrual cycle. Of course, the human body does vary wildly here, and whilst some months there could be 30 days between your period, others it could be as low as 25.
However, you are only after an average here. Being as accurate as possible is important as this will affect the results that you are given which can have a profound effect on when the calculator tells you is the ideal time to try for a child.
Finally, you will be given your results. Based on the information you provided, it will calculate when your next period is anticipated and also your fertile period which is when you stand the best chance to get pregnant.

Understanding the Menstrual Cycle Properly
While you may already have a fair understanding of your own menstrual cycle, there are women who have cycle lengths that vary. Sometimes, your own cycle can be as short as 23 days on cycle and 28 or 30 days the next.
When a variation in menstrual cycle length occurs, it usually happens before you ovulate. This is referred to as the follicular phase which encompasses menstruation as well and ends when you ovulate [3]. A woman generally ovulates between days 12-16 of their cycle which is the start of the luteal phase [4].
There is a multitude of reasons as to why your period could be altered, be it stress or medications, even weight gain/loss or travel. Unless you think you are pregnant, it could be a myriad of reasons that have your period coming irregularly.
Understanding Your Next Menstrual Cycle and Fertilization
If you are trying to get pregnant you need to understand how the menstrual cycle works. The process starts when the thick lining of your womb starts to break up due to the decrease in estrogen and progesterone levels.
Without a sufficient amount of these hormones, your body will shed the lining and it will start to prepare for your next menstrual cycle.
However, if a sperm does make contact with and fertilizes the egg, it will close all pores to prevent more sperms from getting in there. The fertilized egg will stay in the fallopian tube for 3-4 days and then move to the uterus and attach to its wall, staying there for the long haul of pregnancy.
Your body will produce human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG) or pregnancy hormone right away (which can be seen within 6-8 days by a blood test and can take about 2 weeks if not longer to be seen in urine tests) [5].
The body will continue to produce the required estrogen and progesterone hormones so that the womb lining will not be shed and the placenta can grow mature enough that it can support the pregnancy.
Some Important Information Regarding the Calculator
The period calculator above also comes with a fertility calendar. You can navigate through different months by clicking on the NEXT 2 MONTHS and PREVIOUS 2 MONTHS links. This allows you to plan and prepare for your fertile and menstrual periods in the upcoming months.
What you do need to remember though is that the information isn’t 100% accurate as it is impossible to predict the human body.
Your fertile period gives you a good range in when to have intercourse to potentially get pregnant. You can learn more about the likelihood of conception in this article.
That being said, the menstrual calculator is still an extremely useful tool. It provides a simple way of knowing when to anticipate your next period and when is the best time to try for getting pregnant.
This could be a huge help for those with busy schedules to plan their days to start their family.

I had a miscarriage on May 1st and started my period on May 31st and it lasted for 3 days. I started my period on June 26th and ended it on June 29th and I had sex with my husband from 5th July to 9th. What are my chances of getting pregnant?
It seems you have a 27 days cycle so you were fertile from July 7 to 11. It is possible that you conceived on July 9. Your next menstrual period is expected to start on July 23, 2015. You can take a test on July 25 if your period is late.
Hi my last cycle was June 10…expected period to start July 8th…here it is July 10th. Cramping but no period…I’ve been finding myself going to the bathroom more often with runny poo, headache…a little nervous because I know stress can cause a delay…but what do u think ladies?
If you’re still experiencing those symptoms and your period is still late then you need to visit the doctor. A runny stool can dehydrate you and lead to further health issues. I got my last period on the 25 June last month, I had sex with my husband on the 8th of July. Is there any chance for me to fall pregnant?
Your fertile days depends on your menstrual cycle. If you have a regular 28 days cycle, you were fertile from July 07 to 11, 2015. It is possible that you conceived since you were ovulating on July 8. Your next menstrual period is expected to start on July 23, 2015. You can safely take a pregnancy test by July 25 if your period does not come.
I have a 34 days cycle, and my period started on the 8th of June. I had sex with my husband on the 1st of July. Am I likely to be pregnant? When is my next menstrual period and my ovulation period?
You may not be pregnant. You were fertile on June 26 to 30. Your next menstrual period is expected to start on July 12 and you will be fertile again from July 30 to August 3.
Okay so I normally start on the 27th of each month I have a 30 day cycle. Me and my big had sex the 4th 6th and 9th and it’s the 10th now and I wipe and pinkish kinda color on the tissue but it’s gone now . Is there anyway I could be pregnant
Based on your cycle, your last period was June 27 so you were fertile from July 11 to 15. It seems you did not have sex while you were fertile but since the days were so close anything is possible. Your next menstrual period is expected to start on July 27; take a pregnancy test then if your period is late.
hi pals, help pls I had my last period on 14th of June and my fertile day could be 25to30th of june,my next period could be 12 of July my period was 28d ays circle, but I saw it on 8 of July which supposed to come on 12 I was bleed for three days now light pinkish with no much cramps and no clot or tissue and breasts are sore tenderness very hurt to touch, what happened pls help.
It is possible you are pregnant, though tender breast can also be a normal symptom of your cycle. Since I do not know your days of intercourse I cannot say the chances of you being pregnant. Though I will recommend you take a pregnancy test around the 15th of July if you have not yet started your next cycle.
I have been having my regular cycles until my period was delayed. It was to be on 28th June but it was seen on 1st July. I have a 32 days cycle. How do I calculate my ovulation and next menstruation?
Your next most fertile period is July 17 to 21. Since you have a 32 days cycle you will ovulate 16 days before the start of your next period. Your next menstrual period is expected to start on August 02, the 32nd day after your July period.
Last period was June 11 my cycle is 26 days. Have yet to have a period. But have been light cramping. Scared to take a test due to a miscarriage Aug 14, 2014. What should I do should I test or wait it out a little longer?
Your most fertile period was June 21 to 25. If you had sex during that time then it is likely that you conceived. Your July menstrual period was expected to start on July 07 since five days have already passed, you can now take a pregnancy test.
hello there.
I am 15 and I’ve always had a regular 28 days cycle. I expected my period on June 10th and was experiencing cramping that day and for 3 more days after that I was about 9 or 10 days late. I got a little bit of bleeding, mostly brown discharge for 3 days. I took regular HPT’s and they were negative my mom got me an EPT, and it had a faint line and so did the next EPT I took. My mom told me it wasn’t a line to worry about so I haven’t taken a test since then. During those weeks my boobs were slightly tender, they felt bruised on the sides and I was feeling pulling feelings below my belly button.
I’ve had very vivid dreams of babies.
This week, my right nipple is sore and red and I see more glands on around my nipples. I also see more veins, I got them 2 weeks ago and their all over my body, my mom keeps shrugging it off, but I know my body.. My discharge the past couple weeks have all been thick, stretchy and I can roll it in a ball, but I’m also having watery discharge since the beginning of all this. there is no smell or itching and it’s whitish, yellowish in color. my lower back has been killing me, sometimes when I walk it spreads to my butt, I’ve never had lower back pain as a PMS. I had constipation a little over a week ago and they were darker in color but now its back to normal just a little harder to get out (TMI).
I also noticed one thing. I smell everything, when I went outside, I could smell garbage, people cooking inside, people’s houses, grass, and went to the park and could smell the pond from 40 meters away – opened up ham and it made me gag… But I’ve had no morning sickness. I had a little bit of cramping the past 3 days, but it was really light and didn’t last long… I’m also having horrible acne. My cheeks are also tinted pinkish if that is even a symptom.
I know I’m young, but I just need some advice, I don’t know how to get my mom to take me for a blood test. I told her and she ignored me and is too busy to take me, just because she got a positive 3 days before her period. I know everyone is different. Plus she has 8 kids and I’m still a child myself.
I think I’m just going to wait and see if I miss the next period just to be sure… I’ve kind of given up on answers. I keep telling myself, “If you get a bump or miss any other periods then you are and take it from there.” But I also want to make sure I know now so that I can take care of myself and a possible baby and do the right stuff.
Hello Amber. It could be that your period is late because of anxiety, stress and other factors, but you must take another pregnancy test now to confirm if you’re pregnant. Do not wait to see if you’ll miss another period. You may also need to see an OB-GYN to see if you also have a vaginal infection.
Yeah, i have been getting light cramps lately aswell and am constipated really bad. so maybe that could factor in. ive been constipated on and off. i havent been stressed , and i havent changed my water intake or anything, so i dont know whats causing me to be so constipated. i got it last week and then i was okay for a week and now im back constipated .. i know my mom wont be able to take me. shes too busy and ignores it when i bring it up, i dont know what to do
oh and yes im sexually active if thats valuable information. it was with my ex in may when i was ovulating which sounds dumb too do and the withdrawl method failed. i knew i shouldnt of trusted him.
I had my period on June 10 and had sex with my husband to be on June 28 and July 5 when my period was due. Could I be pregnant or not? How safe am I?
Based on the dates given, it seems you have a 25 days cycle. You were most fertile on June 19 to 23. Having sex on June 8 and Jul 5 would be outside of your fertile days so you may not be pregnant. It seems that your period is late though – this can be caused by other factors including stress and anxiety.
On June 14 I started what I thought was my period – it seemed more like spotting which lasted 8 days. I started spotting last night (July 8th). That’s only 17 days after my last (guess you could say) cycle. My tubes have been tied for the last 4 yrs. I honestly doubt I could be pregnant, but I’m confused as to why my cycle is 5 days early. Just never experienced this before.
Having an early period may be caused by other factors. Some of these include weight loss/gain, hormonal imbalances, stress, fatigue, strenuous exercise, eating disorders, medications. It may just be that your body is going through some changes.
I got my period on 8 July. If I have sex with my husband on 11 July, what are the chances of getting pregnant?
If you have a regular 28 days cycle, you would be fertile on July 20 to July 24. It’s highly unlikely that you would be pregnant if you had sex on July 11.
My last period was June 12 to 17, I have 28 days cycle. My fertile days are June 24-28 my next period is July 10. It’s now July 9 but there is no sign. But I have had sore breasts from last week. I had sex with my boyfriend on June 24 but it wasn’t deep and he didn’t “withdraw anything”… I don’t know what to do.
Just a single drop of your boyfriend’s semen can impregnate you once you’re ovulating. If your period is still late then you need to taka a pregnancy test for confirmation.
Will my period be regular in July?
When will your period start or is it a problem when you are 17
Hi i had sex on 29th November 2014 with my ex bf I was on my period at the time I then got back with my current bf and had sex with him throughout all of December/January and found out I was pregnant and my due date is 6th October 2015 just want to make sure its my current bf’s and not my exs from November! Iv been told it will be my current bfs as i must of conceived around middle of January can some one please help??
With a due date of October 6, 2015, you possibly conceived on or around January 13, 2015. If you conceived in November your baby would be due in August.
