There is a widespread problem that exists among many couples who are sexually active. It is that they are relying on what is considered the safe period of the month to engage in sexual activities without taking any precaution.
The odds of a woman getting pregnant after having sex right after her period is low, but it could actually happen to anyone. If you need to know more, then read on as this article seeks to answer the question of can you get pregnant just after your period ends?
It is possible for you to conceive right after your period ends as this time you are just starting to enter your fertility window. However, your chances will be very low in reality.
If you are having sex without using any birth control method, you can get pregnant or conceive at any time in your menstrual cycle, including during or immediately after your period. It will all come down to how long your menstruation lasts and the actual length of your menstrual cycle.
Understanding the Menstrual Cycle
In case you are not aware of this, your menstrual cycle will start on day one of your period and last up to day one of your next period.
Your most fertile time will be at ovulation – happens when your ovaries release an egg – which normally takes place twelve to fourteen days before the start of the next period.
This period is called the fertile window, and it’s the time when you’re more likely to conceive.
For a typical cycle that takes place every twenty-eight to thirty days, this fertility window is normally between day eleven and twenty-one.
It is important to point out that the sperm can survive inside the body sometimes for as much as seven days after a woman has sex.
You will be approaching your fertile window if your period last for five to seven days and you engage in sex immediately after.
This means you could get pregnant very soon after your period ends if you ovulate early, particularly if your menstrual cycle is naturally short.
If you have a short cycle and long periods, it is still possible for your ovaries to release an egg very quickly after your period ends. This egg can get fertilized as normal, and pregnancy occurs if and when that happens.
Of course, you should also remember that your chances of getting pregnant immediately after your period will increase each day after the bleeding stops.
If you have been trying to conceive desperately, then this will be a good time to have sex to increase your chances.
More Information about Your Chances of Conceiving
In addition to the above, you can get pregnant or conceive if your period has never come before, throughout your first period, or immediately after having sex for the first time.
It is also quite possible for you to become pregnant throughout the alleged safe period of the month even when your partner withdraws his penis before ejaculating.
Semen is normally released during sex, including the precum one, so any form of sex without protection could result in pregnancy.
There are also rare instances when women end up pregnant even though they did not have penetrative sex with their partner.
The sperm can be very resilient, lasting up to several days following ejaculation. This means that pregnancy is a definite possibility if either one of you has sperm on your hands or any other part of your body, and it comes in contact with your vagina.
If you are looking to conceive or get pregnant, one of the best ways to increase your chances is to invest in an ovulation testing kit.
There are many different types available today, ranging from the simple strips which test the urine to the digital computers which monitor things monthly.
It is often more difficult for women to detect ovulation without these tests.
Another, less accurate method of detecting ovulation is to measure basal body temperature (BBT). It is a widely used way to detect ovulation due to ease of the test.
In this method, women need to measure body temperature each day in the morning before starting any kind of activity. Ovulation is marked by 0.5-1.0° F rise in the BBT.
It is worth knowing that BBT test is less accurate than ovulation testing kits, and may fail to detect ovulation in some cases.
Bottom Line
There is really no safe period of the month to engage in sexual activities without using contraception and avoid getting pregnant. You could even conceive if you have sex during your period.
However, you will be more fertile at certain times during your menstrual cycle, and this is the period when you are more likely to conceive. At times, ovulation can occur within a few days after your period ends.
In addition, sperm could fertilize an egg three days or seventy-two hours after ejaculation. Aside from the chances of becoming pregnant, you also have the risk of catching a sexually transmitted disease, such as genital warts, chlamydia, or HIV/AIDs, so you should use contraception at all times when having sex.
If not, abstinence is the only sure way to avoid unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. You can talk to your medical doctor about the different contraception methods available to you.

So i got off of my period on July 14th and yesterday on the 18th i had sex could i get pregnant that way? Because everything im reading is saying stuff like i can and i cant. And that’s been 5 days off and pretty much 9 days since i started / together since i began that day. AND can i tell earlier if im pregnant or not before my next period comes?
Hi Madison, your fertile period would have been (if your period started on the 9th based on what you are saying), the 19th through the 22nd of July. So you could essentially get pregnant. Check out the calculator here There are some pregnancy tests that can test 5-6 days before your missed period, but I would recommend waiting until your period is late to take a test.
Hi I started my period on the 27th June and I have sex with my boyfriend on 8th on July till on the 13th and I want to know if I can be pregnant thank you
Hi Patience, that would have been during your fertile time frame so you could be. Wait until you miss your period to take a test. Good luck!

Hello Julch, take a pregnancy test to confirm if you are pregnant.

Then on the evening, we had an unprotected sex which I accidentally came inside of her vagina. She have a regular menstrual cycle (28 days). I’m wondering could there be a high chance of her getting pregnant?
Hoping for you soon reply.

Hello Prince, she has to take a pregnancy test 7 days after her missed period to determine this.

Hello Dianne, you can get pregnant once you have unprotected sex.
Also i went to my gyna i told her that i have very long lasting days periods like my periods last for 9 to 10 days with heavy bleeding also weight gain facial hair she said thats all symptoms of pcos but she doesnot did any ultrasound sound and test without any test she said your symptoms said you have pcos so she gave me metformin iam not even diabetic although my weight is 102kg in lb its 224 also since from two month iam using ovulation kit result always come negative iam trying to get pregnet since from march 2018 now its been almost 4months still not become pregnant my age is 22 plz help me out
Hi Wify, I would recommend focus on getting health as well. Weight gain and being overweight can affect your body and it’s ability to get pregnant as well as PCOS, which is a double edged sword. Both have an affect on your body. Honestly, I would start integrating healthy eating, get some exercise and also if you want a second opinion on your PCOS go to another doctor to see what they say.
Hi,,I’m carol I saw my period on 16th may and I had sex on 10th June still see my period on 13th June..I could I be pregnant?
Hi Carol, if you had your period, then most likely not.
I started my period on 2nd of July and it ended on 5th of July. On that 5th I had sex with my boyfriend and also had sex with him on 6th. Is there any possibility of getting pregnant
Hi Franca, unless you have a really short cycle, then generally not the day or two after your period ends.
HI I had my period on the 4th on June end at 8th of June then had unprotective sex on the 9th now it’s July 6th and haven’t had my period yet can I be pregnant
Hi Marie, have you taken a pregnancy test? I would do that. But the day after your period is generally not a fertile timeframe if you have an average 28 day cycle.
Hy my name is blessing i had my menses on the 27 of june and it lasted for 5days, so I wnt to know when to have sex to become pregnant
Hi Blessing, based on the calculator found here Between the 7th and the 11th this month.
Hi I’m Rita, please which of the days in a menstrual cycle are the safe periods, which of the days will one have unprotected sex without getting pregnant..
Please I’m confused and the more I ask people, the more they get me confused with different answers, I don’t want to make a mistake please.. I believe here I will be more clear. Thanks…..
Hi Rita, Honestly I would check out the calculator found here based the first day of your last period and how long your cycle (from the start of one to the start of the next). The white spaces in the calendar are your “safe” days. Know though that are many factors that can lead to a slight change in ovulation so don’t use this as your only form of preventing pregnancy.
Have I started my period on 18 this June and had sex on 28 would be landed on my fertile days and is safe to have sex after fertile days
Hi Nancy, are you asking if it’s safe to have sex after you’ve already had sex during your fertile period> Yes
I finished my period today in morning and we did intercourse same day but in night so is it chance to get pregnant?
Hi Wify, generally the same day your period ends, unless you have a really short cycle you would most likely not get pregnant.
