For the purpose of this article, we will look at the differences between long and short menstrual cycle. First and foremost, you should know that every woman’s cycle is unique so it is difficult to say what is normal. For instance, a normal menstrual cycle can be as long as forty days

Please my circle changed from 28 days to 21 days which I think is due to typical use of birth control pills. Am finding it difficult calculating my safe period. Please is day 6 still safe for me.

Hi my cycle has been alternating length. Month 1 it was 25 days, month 2 it was 27, month 3 it was 25, month 4 it was 27, & now am on day 28 of month 5 & haven’t received my period yet. Is it ok to assume this month should have been a 25 day cycle and that I’m now 3 days late and therefore pregnant?
Hello Desperatelytrying, the only way to know if you might be pregnant is by taking a pregnancy test. I advise you to do so if you especially think you might be pregnant. All the best.
My cycle lasts 20 days is that normal?
Hi there Ndamona, a normal cycle lasts between 21 to 35 days, if this has always been the case for you then there is no real cause for concern.
My cycle has always been 22 days, I was meant to see my period on the 17th of May. But today is 20th and yet nothing. I am sure am not pregnant because my hubby travelled. Have been having the before menstrual symptoms, hope I am good?
Hi there Jennifer, if had some point you had unprotected sex (based on your recollection) then you might have gotten pregnant. Currently you are 3 days late, if your period does not come in another 2 days (5 days total) then take a pregnancy test. All the best.
Thanks dearie, I started seeing it that same 20th but it came at night though…Fnx for the help ok..God bless ,Jenny!
You are most welcome!

Hello Anam, many things can alter the arrival of a period. Stress, hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, etc. If you are worried see your doctor. Also repeat a pregnancy test in a week’s time.

Hi there Sadiya, no this is not normal but there are various reasons why this might happen. See the following link to read up on why: http://womanjunction.com/category/menstrual-cycle/
Hello
My period flows between 21 and 26days.but recently it starts on the 16th day.i have also had it flow more than 5days..please what could be the cause or causes and what should be done.
Hi there Temitayo, many women suffer from irregularities, this is common, but that does not make it normal. Click the following link to read more about this, all the best: http://womanjunction.com/irregular-menstrual-cycle-occurs/
My menstrual cycle is every 25 days and I bleed for 3 to 4 days each time. My husband and I have four children. After our fourth child I was on and off of birth control and then about a year-and-a-half ago we decided for me to stop taking birth control now that all four of our children are finally in school. For about maybe a year we have been trying to get pregnant again. I wanted to know by me being on birth control for so long could that be the reason why it’s taking so long because every last one of our children are only 18 to 23 months apart. We had our second child 18 months after the first child the third child 23 months after the second child and the fourth child 18 months after the third child. So now that we’re trying to have another one or two I didn’t notice that it would take so long for me to get pregnant again what is going on? Could it be because I was on birth control for so long? My doctor gave me prenatal vitamins so that way when we get pregnant the baby will already be getting the vitamins. The vitamins are working good on everything else with my body but I’m still not pregnant. When in the world do I ovulate? Hoping and praying for twins or triplets. But….. there’s one problem that just occurred our youngest now that he’s in school he has been up under me like crazy… he wants to lay with me play with me all I know is I think it’s a reminder that hey I’m the baby and that’s it. Because sometimes I do think I’m not ready for him to not be my baby baby baby anymore so we are really praying for another girl.
Hello Jessica, yes being on birth control for prolonged periods can cause this. Arrange to speak with your family planning doctor as soon as you can.
I alternate between 21 and twenty eight days cycle. Sometimes i do a steady 28 other times it’s steadily 21. And the flow always lasts between 4-5 days. Is it normal?
Hi Bukky, this is not unusual and there aren’t any causes for concern at present given that these are the only signs. You may be experiencing menstrual irregularities.
I got my period when I was 13, and I am now almost 16. For the first year my cycle was obviously a little irregular because it takes some time to adjust, but now it is extremely long. My cycle is about 47 days and I’m not sure if I should tell somebody about it. If the normal cycle is 28 days then mine is almost 20 days longer… It doesn’t seem to be hurting anything because it isn’t irregular; my period is always 6 or 7 with around 5 1/2 weeks between each one. Is it going to get shorter with age?
Hi, if your cycle is not irregular then it’s normal to have longer menstrual cycle. It is just that you might be having less number of periods than a 28 day cycle.
I got my period when I was 12 I’m 13 now and since my school and my mom never told me anything about periods except that I need to wear pads for whatever time I get it, is it bad? I have my period for 7 days but when it’s over I only get about 13 days without my period?? I don’t know if it’s normal?? I see the doctor for a regular check-up in about 6 months and I’m recording it now should I just wait to tell someone then because I’m very shy about this stuff.
The menstrual cycle starts on day one of the bleeding to day one of the next. On average, the cycle lasts for 28 days, but it’s normal to have it longer or shorter. In your case, your days are shorter. Keep tracking your period until it’s time to see your doctor. It is important for you to keep a record of your menstrual cycle on a calendar or on a smart phone; there are many ovulation apps available. Track your start date every month for several months – this will help you to determine the constancy of your periods.
I have a normal 28 day cycle..but this time my period lasted only for 3 days..normally it use to be 5 or 6days..is der any prob
Menstruation is a natural fact of life, in which ovulation leads to Pregnancy. Basically ovulation occurs when a mature egg is going through the Ovary towards fallopian tube and ready to get fertilized. During this period the lining of Uterus is getting thick to get ready for storing fertilized eggs. Most of the women face irregular periods generally the reasons are depend on their daily routine. Some of the major reasons which affect periods are alcohol, birth control pills and stress. Sometimes pregnancy also be the reason behind long and short cycles.
