Being pregnant is usually a beautiful time in a woman’s life. That doesn’t mean that it’s all sunshine and rainbows and there are women out there who absolutely despise being pregnant because of what it does to their bodies.
And that’s okay! While the female body is amazing and can create, grow, and nourish a new life, it’s not always an easy and glamour process.
We want to help you feel your best during what should be an amazing time and everything that’s going to be given to you will be a remedy that you can do at home to make you feel more beautiful and enhance that pregnancy glow that you should be showing off.
These beauty tips will be whole body beauty tips, not just doing your makeup or your hair, but ways to make you feel better from the inside out and vice versa.
Hopefully, throughout this list, you will find something that will give you life and make you feel like a million dollars when you are done.
Congratulations and read on for 10 amazing ways to make yourself feel more beautiful during this special time.
Stay Hydrated
This sounds almost too simple considering we are told to drink water on a regular basis.
However, drinking water is even more essential when you are pregnant in order for you to maintain healthy skin and a healthy baby. When you are pregnant, the baby needs a place to float around and that is in the amniotic fluid.
That, coupled with potential morning sickness and the increase in blood volume, a woman can become dehydrated quicker than normal (plus, the more dehydrated you are, the less amniotic fluid that is being made). Another benefit is that the more water in, the more moisturized and supple your skin is as well.
This may help with the production of stretch marks but it can help the skin feel less itchy from the inside out. This has to by far be the easiest beauty treatment, just grab a glass and start drinking.
Feed the Body, and the Baby, Right
A lot of women will go around saying they are eating for two, and that is not a necessity. A good beauty regimen also includes taking care of your body from the inside out.
This was the point of the previous tip of drinking water. The healthier you are inside, the more you glow on the outside.
Plus, the easier it will be to take part in the tips below as well in order to have the energy to do so.
Back to the main point you only need to add about 340 extra calories daily in the second trimester and about 450 during the third [1]. You can easily add this with additional fruit, healthy nuts, a healthy sandwich.
No need to hit the drive through every night. Now we aren’t saying that you have to give up all junk food, because you can definitely indulge in a craving every once in a while, (because completely forgoing everything is not necessary), it’s about moderation.
Enjoy a few treats here and there but optimally just add some additional calories. Eating the right foods can help keep you healthy and feed your good energy so you can stay active as well.
Keep Active
Stay with me here. Staying active is important in pregnancy because you want to just sit down and relax, but staying healthy and continuing to work out during pregnancy can make labor and recovery easier than if you sit the entire time.
There are plenty of things that you can do at home, and if you are afraid to (or advised not to) lift weights you can do other things like yoga which can help to keep you relaxed and also relieve those aches and pains that inevitably come with being pregnant.
Catch Those All-Important Zzz’s
They say that during pregnancy, women should get all the sleep they can now because they won’t get any more when the baby arrives. This tends to be true.
It’s hard to get good sleep when you are woken up multiple times per night because of this new little being that wants to be fed, changed, and comforted.
I mean no one can complain about these moments but they are tiring. The importance of sleep in a beauty routine is because it helps to keep your eyes a little brighter, fewer bags, and more pep in your step.
Get a pregnancy pillow or a body pillow to put in between your legs and under your belly to make side sleeping so much more comfortable as it helps to reduce the pressure due to your ever-growing belly.
Keep That Baby Belly Soft
Stretch marks are a common complaint among pregnant women and there are plenty of ways that you can help to keep them at bay (although you might not be able to completely avoid them).
One way is to head on into the kitchen and see what kind of oils you have. Some women have recommended using anything from coconut oil, pure shea butter, or sweet almond oil[1] on their bellies to keep them (and the rest of their skin), as smooth as a baby’s bottom.
Keeping the skin moisturized (in addition to all that amazing water you are drinking), will help to reduce the severity of stretch marks.
Revamp Your Skincare Routine
This is a great tip because like all the rest, you don’t have to go out of the house. Whether you are lucky enough to have that beautiful pregnancy glow with healthy dewy skin or your hormones are wreaking havoc on it, you’ll want to check what you are putting on your skin in order to keep you and your baby healthy.
As far as what chemicals you should be avoiding, steer clear of parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, toluene, dihydroxyacetone (DHA), aluminum chloride, salicylic and beta-hydroxy acids [3].
You have to consider that your skin is far more sensitive than it was before you became pregnant and you have to take care to use products that won’t irritate it.
Using sensitive skin products and ones that are all natural can help to keep your skin healthier and more beautiful (in turn making you feel better in the long run).
Make Some Masks
Sticking with the skincare theme here, there are plenty of products in your home that can be combined to make amazing facemasks. Take a look at a few of these and then check out the some more on Beauty Health Tips page [4].
For Dry Skin
- 1 tbsp plain yogurt (no sugars added or flavors obviously)
- 1 tsp old fashioned plain oatmeal
- 3 drops of honey if you have it.
- Combine ingredients and spread on a clean face. Leave for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water.
Oily Skin
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 ripe banana
- Combine ingredients and spread on the face, neck, and hands as well if you want. Once dry, rinse off with warm water.
Night Time Mask
- 1 tbsp aloe vera
- 1 capsule vitamin-E or 5 drops almond oil
- Combine the ingredients and apply to your face, neck, hands, and feet. Leave it on overnight and then wash your body and face as usual.
Change Your Makeup Routine
So now that we have the skincare down pat, why not try out the makeup that you do have at the house, the all-natural foundations and eyeshadows that you have sitting there but have yet to try. Hop on YouTube or Pinterest and try out different techniques and colors.
While there are so many things that cannot be controlled during pregnancy, you can use this one to feel more beautiful. Have a friend come over and do makeovers (or go get one, but these are at home tips so maybe another day).
Raid Your Closet and Flaunt Your Beautiful Belly
Really, pregnancy is beautiful and the more confident you are in your own skin, the better you will feel.
If your game for it, go through your non-maternity clothes, some of those cute summer dresses or sweater dresses in the winter; form-fitting but stretchy clothes and wear them with maternity leggings (or regular leggings) and enjoy showing off that miracle growing inside you.
Be confident about it and enjoy it. Walk tall. You are amazing.
Get Some Relaxation
One thing that you want to consider is that your stress levels are probably at an all-time high and will continue to be that way once the baby comes. Take the time now to pamper yourself as part of your daily or weekly beauty routine.
Let your partner take care of cleaning the bathroom while you sit with your feet up to reduce swelling. Get a pedicure or do one yourself (have your other children do them if you have them), but learn how to just relax and be.
Everything will get done, the house will not fall apart, but again the less stressed you are, the healthier and happier pregnancy you can have, which in turn can make you feel so much more beautiful.
Know That this is Only Temporary
While your own personal beauty routine might be lacking, maybe you have other children and relaxation is near impossible, maybe you have a high-stress job, whatever the case may be, know that this will not last forever.
Most of the tips above are considered homemade because they are all things that you can do at home. Take care of yourself, even if it is only for the last week before the baby comes. Do whatever you must to make yourself feel beautiful (hint hint, be selfish every once in a while).
The most important part of your routine is making sure that you feel good. Enjoy the pregnancy and prepare for your new little one (or multiples) to join your daily routine.
