7 Month Pregnant: What to Expect?

When a pregnant woman reaches the third trimester or seventh month, she is ready to give birth. However, before welcoming her little one to the world, she has to be prepared for everything that will happen during this transition period as she and the baby start to experience many physiological changes.

The information below will give some idea as to what to expect during the seventh month of pregnancy.

Let’s start with the physical changes.

In month seven, you will start to pack on extra weight, which is necessary if you want to maintain a pregnancy that is healthy. You are going to feel bigger and clumsier as your movements get slower.

Your baby is going to be very active at this time, as it might even leave you feeling sore sometimes. The baby’s movement will start to change because the space inside the uterus becomes really cramped. The little one might be able to shift his/her knees and elbows, curl up while crossing their legs, and even make attempts to maintain a good posture.

The growing baby will put lots of pressure on your stomach, intestines, liver and diaphragm. You might feel tightness in your abdomen, which leads to breathlessness and backache. Your breasts might start leaking a clear fluid, your white vaginal discharge becomes increasingly heavy and heartburn could become a problem.

Braxton Hicks contractions are going to continue in the seventh month of pregnancy and become more noticeable for the rest of your pregnancy. In case you are not aware of this, these contractions happen when the uterine muscles tighten and they will come every twenty minutes or so. They will help to prepare your uterus for labor.

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that there are ways to decrease the strain on your back during this time. You should try to maintain a good posture as much as you can, sleep on a firm mattress, and wear shoes with a low heel. In addition, you need to ensure that you are getting proper nutrition and exercising to maintain energy levels and boost your stamina for the delivery.

Here are some of the things that you should be concerned with during the seventh month of pregnancy:

Bleeding: You should seek medical help if you are bleeding after week twenty-eight. Bleeding might be very mild or heavy and accompanied by pain in the abdominal area. During late pregnancy, bleeding could indicate placenta or uterus problems.

The placenta could cover the cervix opening completely or partially, or there could be an abruption where it comes away from the uterus walls and the uterus might be ruptured.

Premature labor: It is important to know about the signs for premature labor in order to get help. For this, the symptoms include:

  • Bright red vaginal blood
  • Over five contractions in an hour
  • Swelling of the hands or face
  • Prolonged or sharp pain in the stomach
  • Pain when urinating
  • Watery fluid gushing suddenly from vagina
  • Intense pressure on the pelvic area
  • Continuous or acute vomiting
  • Dull, low backache

Emotional Changes

There is no way to escape the reality of pregnancy at this time as your protruding belly gets a lot of attention. Many women feel very special because everyone is trying to make them comfortable, including strangers who will give you their seat. Some women love these gestures, but others feel annoyed when people treat them like they are helpless.

You will feel anxious as well as a sense of fulfillment and pride in the third trimester. You are going to be thinking, and probably talking, about your baby constantly. You might start aching to hold your little one and worry about losing him/her.

At seven months, you might have to stop working, which could be difficult to get used to if work is important to your self-confidence.

Besides that, you’ll have renewed energy during this month, feeling an intense urge to do things and bustle around, so you might be wondering what you are going to do if you have to stop working prior to your due date.

Body image is an important issue during the third trimester when your belly swells bigger than you imagine. You might feel untidy and unattractive, so your partner has to give you a lot of reassurance during this month.

If you are already a mother, you might be worried about reliving the pain or any complications you might have had during previous childbirth.

If you are giving birth for the first time, you might be worried and frightened about the unknowns of delivery and labor. You might worry that your baby will come unexpectedly and you have to deliver at home.

Lastly, the physical pregnancy symptoms can lead to mood swings, irritability, and loss of patience, all of which are normal feelings to have in the seventh month of pregnancy. However, you could be suffering from depression if you are continuously feeling resentful, hopeless and sad.

You would definitely need medical help for depression in late pregnancy as the symptoms are often carried over to the postpartum period.
