For years you experienced a regular period cycle that gave you a fairly predictable sense of what you were to experience every month. This doesn’t include just the timing of your period, but also what your period is like, heavy, light, somewhere in between. No matter what the case, it has been Mother Nature’s way of telling you hey, you’re not pregnant every 28 or so days. While it’s an annoyance for some, others it’s a comfort, knowing that whatever method of contraception using, is working. However, somewhere in your mid to late ’40s (however it can be sooner or
Menstrual Cycle in Your 40s: What to Expect
I am 40, I had my periods regularly twice this July, the last one ended 30th of July and today there was a spotting my last period didn’t flow normally like the rest, it was not as heavy I had sex in April and my period has been coming normally can I get pregnant while my period is normal.
Hello Kris, yes it might seem like your period has been coming normally but this is might not be a period. If you have a missed period take a pregnancy test 7 days after missed period to determine if you might be pregnant.
I’m a 45 year old woman & my period just ended 2 weeks ago but this morning I started bleeding heavy . I’m concerned & wondering if this is normal.
Hi there Anita, this is much need for concern. Please see your doctor ASAP.
Hey, I just wanted to ask that my age is 42 and my periods have become more frequent in past few months. My cycle was 28 days and now I get my period on 19th day. Is it completely normal having more periods and heavy flush etc
Hi there Mahi, please see your doctor ASAP about this issue.
Hi I am 48, I have the IUD contraceptive going into two years now, I have began to have my period every two weeks in the last few months at my last my period and now I’m having my period one week later again. Could I be going into premenopausal or is there an issue with my IUD?
Hello Jewel, best advise to you is to see your doctor who originally inserted your IUD for proper assessment.
Thank you!
I’m a little envious of these women having 28 day cycles lol my cycle has always been 21-23 days! Not cool! Anyhow, I don’t usually write in these comment sections but I am writing to say thank u…my questions have been answered here…I am having heavy heavy periods the last couple months and having urinary urges that I used to be able to hold, I didn’t realize they were related till now! I’m quite sure I’m in the first phase of the next phase now 🙃 I’m 40 and a smoker so I’m likey to have started eary because of smoking…I’ve read that it can happen a couple years early for smokers! Happy I’m not alone in this…it’s scary to think I used to lol at my Mum for what I’m about to go through 😋 All the best to all of u! Hugs
Hello Nikki, you are welcome. All the best with your health!
Hello I am 49 can menopause start at this age?
Hi there Gwendolyn, yes it could, see following link: https://womanjunction.com/signs-of-menopause/
I turned 39 a couple of months ago. My periods used to be every 31 to 35 days & lasted approx. 7 days & have always been rather heavy normally & irregular. Now they seem to be getting every 28 days & lasting 4 to 5 days (not normal for me) becoming more regular as I get older & are still rather heavy. I also have been experiencing urinary urgency, some hot flashes (I also have high BP & hypothyroidism & am already on 20 mgs of Lexapro daily), increased fatigue & muscle fatigue, back pains ever since I was preg for my 2yr old, insomnia issues, weight gain/can’t seem to lose the weight, short-term memory issues (could be from tiredness…I have 5 kids, 1 is 2 yrs old). I don’t over-eat & I try to be active for a decent amount of time each day. Could I have perimenopause?
Hello there Lauralee, this could be caused by quite a number of reasons, I advise that you go in and see your doctor for a full assessment. In the mean time read the article from the link below to see what the symptoms of being perimenopausal are: https://womanjunction.com/perimenopause-symptoms-test-treatment-and-remedies/
Hi,
I am 45 years and periods been stopped. As my friends are telling me that during 40s or beyond age women periods will get stopped and they will suffer lots of unknown diseases. Is that true?
Hi there Anjali, no, diseases can occur and affect anyone at any age. However you might be menopausal.
Hi. I am 42, I was having a cycle of 28 days. But recently I am having early dates. June I had after 24 days. This month after 22 days. Should I consult physician or is this normal. Please advice.
Hello Malini, since the days are still close then there’s no major cause for concern.
I just turned 41 this year, and today was my first irregular heavy period. I usually come about every 27-28days. This time was 15 days apart. I thought something was wrong. I even noticed my breast getting tender lately and bigger. I’ve always been moody, and had night sweats so i cut off all my hair. But today, I had hot flashes. I’m sure its perimenopause. Still will make a dr appt just to be sure.
Hi there Erika, yes, please see your doctor just to ensure this is what is happening. All the best.
I’ve been on a regular 28 day cycle all my life… I’m turning 40 next month and past 6 months have had couple night sweats, mood swings like crazy, and my 28 days turned into 35 last month… should I expect my cycle to not be regular anymore? I’ve liked the predictability of knowing what my weeks would be like!!
Hi there Jennifer, please see your doctor about these symptoms ans signs as this could mean so many things. All the best.
I have my menstration this june but this first day of july i have spotting….i am just turned 40 last February….i am 12 years ligated already…(btl)….what will i do?…is there a possibility that i am pregnant?
Hello there Susie, please take a pregnancy test to confirm your suspicions.
I use to have heavy periods every month. Then I missed 3months of my period. But the last two months I am like spotting could be menopause I have started to become very dry and don’t sleep well
Hello there Michelle, you did not state your age, however for the absence of a period for 3 months you should see your doctor for thorough assessment.
I have of late becoming worried because as I turned 40 years old my menstruation stopped all together. I knew I wasn’t pregnant because I went to two nurses office and the result was negative. There was an obvious change in my mood, the way my body felt, and certainly in my sex drive.
Hi there Rolanda, this might be as a result of menopause, see your doctor as you are still quite young. All the best.
Very good thanks
Thank you so much for this information. Very helpful
